and was placed on The National Register in

Schluter
House
This
home was built in 1856, by F.A. Schluter, one of Jefferson's
first six settlers. The property was chosen because
it overlooked the town of Jefferson and the river basin.
The home remained in the Schluter family until 1949.
This historic home holds both State and National Historic
markers. It
was purchased in 2004 by present owners, Larry and Cindy
Pinkerton, and they are restoring the home to its past
glory. |

Hudgins-Blake
House
Built in
1867 by the Witcorn brothers, architects from Nacogdoches,
who were also commissioned to build the Catholic
Church in Jefferson. They owned the home briefly,
followed by a series of short-term owners until 1896
when William Blake, an educator in the African-American community,
purchased the house. The current owners,
Bob Haynes and David Sinclair, purchased the home
in 1973.

Whitington's
Terry House
This
house was built before 1850, making it one of the oldest
houses still standing in Jefferson today. The original owner,
Dr. Benjamin Terry, was a physician and served
as mayor of the city of Jefferson. The house remained in
the Terry family for several generations, and the
last family member living there was Dorothy Terry Davis
who occupied the house off and on for some 86 years.
It then served as an antique store for over a decade.
This classic Greek Revival home features original heart
of pine floors and fourteen foot ceilings. It is a recorded
Texas Historic Landmark currently owned and lovingly
restored by Leonard and Betty Whitington.
